Edward and the Skybax in Dinotopia

Chapter 1 - Edward Arrives in Dinotopia

One day Edward was riding his bike in the backyard. It kept going faster and faster. He passed the picnic table, he passed the playhouse, he passed the swing set. Faster and faster, Edward rode his bike past the bushes and the garden. The brakes wouldn't work on his bike. He couldn't stop his bike and he was riding straight towards the creek. It looked like Edward was going to go into the creek!

The bike dropped off into the creek with Edward falling right behind. SPLASH! Into the water he went. Edward started swimming back to shore. He climbed out of the water and up the hill to his backyard. He saw that he wasn't in his backyard at all, but in a jungle. When he looked around he saw ferns and tall trees. He heard noises like thunder and loud rustling.

Suddenly out of the tall trees a colorful dinosaur appeared. An Iguanodon. It came over and sniffed Edward. Edward touched the dinosaur. They became friends. The dinosaur told Edward that his name was Iggy. Edward told Iggy that he was lost and asked where he was. Iggy told Edward that he was in Dinotopia. Then Edward got on Iggy's back and the two rode away.

They rode for a long time and finally reached a big building. Iggy told Edward that this was the egg hatchery. Edward and Iggy went inside where they met one of Iggy's friends. A Protoceratops named Bix. Bix told Edward and Iggy that a dinosaur egg had just hatched. It was a baby Skybax. The Skybax hatchling needed to stay at the hatchery for a while and then be escorted up to Canyon City to be trained so a Skybax rider could ride him. Bix asked if Edward and Iggy could escort the Skybax hatchling to Canyon City when it got big enough. Edward and Iggy said yes. So Edward and Iggy stayed at the hatchery for a while, helping to take care of the Skybax hatchling, who was named Terrance.

Soon Terrance was big enough to leave the hatchery and to be escorted to Canyon City by Edward and Iggy. Early one morning, the three headed away from the hatchery. Edward was riding on Iggy and Terrance was flying close behind them. Terrance wasn't big enough to hold a rider yet. He needed to be trained at Canyon City to get used to carrying a rider, called a Skybax rider. Terrance wondered who would be chosen as his skybax rider? Little did he know that it would be Edward, who would eventually end up training in Canyon City to be a Skybax rider.

Iggy took Edward and Terrance to Waterfall City. They saw an Elasmosaurus named Super Swimmer. Terrance asked him if Edward could ride on him. He said yes. Edward got on and Iggy watched. Terrance flew over them. They also met a Mosasaurus named Awesome Swimmer.

Iggy, Edward and Terrance traveled through the Rainy Basin. When they got there Iggy smelled something. Edward and Terrance followed him. They bumped into a Tyrannosaurus Rex, named Jaw. Then they saw a Giganotosaurus, named Super Jaw. Then the Tyrannosaurus and the Giganatosaurus began to fight. While they were fighting Edward, Iggy and Terrance escaped.

They went to Canyon City. Edward would be taught about Skybax riding. They saw a Skybax rider. It was Will! His Skybax was named Cirrus. Soon Terrance and Edward would both begin their training together.
